IT TURNED OUT SO RIGHT FOR STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT…
It all began on one very random February night in 2018 at a party at SDSU — a classic college tale. Kara was a freshman, Brett was a wise and worldly junior (aka freshly 21 and legally allowed to buy the drinks), and fate — or maybe just good music and free drinks — brought them together. There is video footage from that night, but it’s top-secret, and only a chosen few have seen it. Trust us, it’s staying that way.
Over the next year, they got to know each other through late-night talks, group hangouts, and probably too many trips to In-n-Out. By March 2019, they made it official. Not even two months into dating, Kara spotted a dog on Craigslist and had to meet him — by the border, no less. Brett, ever the trooper, came along. Neither of them knew they were about to meet their soul dog, but here we are.
The next few years were filled with college adventures, quality time with friends, and, of course, surviving a pandemic. Kara turned twenty-one the week the lockdown started, so naturally, a margarita to-go from Café Coyote became a defining moment.
After graduation, they both started working at Axos Bank — lucky for their relationship, in different buildings at least half a mile apart. (Some healthy workplace distance never hurt anyone.) They moved in together in Point Loma and built a cozy life filled with dog walks, takeout, and navigating adulthood one chaotic Monday at a time.
In early 2024, they made the tough (but right!) decision to move back to Orange County to be closer to family. Since then, things have gotten a little… suburban. Between Friday night football games for the nephews, family dinners, and heated debates over which Tik Tok recipe looks better for dinner, Kara and Brett have officially entered their soft-launch into suburban life.
Now, after years of love, laughter, and the occasional “Are you seriously watching that again?” moment, they’re ready to tie the knot. Let’s party.
